Cost of college went up for non-resident students at the College of the Sequoias

In-state tuition and fees were unchanged for 2018-19 at the College of the Sequoias, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

California residents paid $1,390 to attend the two-year public institution in both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.

Non-residents paid 453.2 percent more than residents this year, or $7,690. Their price tag grew 7 percent from $7,186 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are California residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 83 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,408 students received grants or scholarships totaling $8.5 million and 13 students took out student loans totaling more than $80,552.

Including all undergraduates (12,557), 8,430 students used grants or scholarships totaling $32.4 million, and 134 students took out $644,620 in federal student loans.
