Federal and state regulators have announced new water restrictions affecting the Delta region. Assemblywoman Alexandra Macedo, Vice Chair of the Natural Resources Committee, expressed concerns over these measures. Representing Tulare, California's largest agricultural area, Macedo highlighted the challenges faced by communities reliant on Delta water.

"Communities across the Central Valley are in dire need of reliable water – from residents in East Porterville to farmers in Kings County who grow our food," said Macedo. She emphasized that limiting water flow from the Delta could negatively impact farmers, workers, and local communities, potentially leading to food insecurity and jeopardizing livelihoods for "the sake of the Delta smelt."

Macedo stressed that solving California's water crisis requires a balance between environmental considerations and meeting the needs of Californians dependent on these resources. "California’s water crisis cannot be solved by restricting resources critical to our state’s economy," she stated.

With a potential drought looming, Macedo warned against wasting any available water resources. "The State cannot afford to waste any water. The future of our farms, families and communities is at stake."
