Assemblywoman Alexandra Macedo, a Republican from Tulare, has expressed criticism of Governor Gavin Newsom's handling of the bird flu situation in California. Representing a significant agricultural area, Macedo voiced her concerns regarding the state's measures to prevent the spread of avian influenza.
Macedo stated, "The Governor has failed Californians once again. The Newsom Administration failed to enforce and fund basic standards to properly secure our borders at the state’s highways." She emphasized that proper funding for inspection checkpoints could have helped prevent the outbreak by ensuring testing verification, vaccination records, and branding paperwork were adequately checked.
According to Macedo, "The Governor chooses to fund special interest projects rather than protecting our farmers and farm workers." She highlighted the impact on agriculture, noting that farmers and their workers have been adversely affected. Furthermore, she pointed out that consumers are facing increased prices for milk, dairy products, and eggs due to what she perceives as inaction from the administration.
