Sacramento – In a significant development this week, Assemblyman Mathis saw 6 of his bills unanimously pass their respective Committees. The bills addressed crucial issues affecting California, spanning education, ecosystems, energy, Veterans, the IDD community, and agriculture.

Assemblyman Devon Mathis highlighted the importance of one of the bills, stating, "With domestic abuse rates in the US rising, it’s important that our youth are provided with the domestic violence resources that are available to them should they ever need them." He emphasized the bipartisan nature of AB 2053, aimed at assisting vulnerable students in breaking the cycle of abuse and receiving the necessary care and support.

Regarding the ecosystem, Mathis stressed the significance of beavers, calling them a "keystone species vital to the ecosystem." He pointed out the various ways in which beavers contribute to environmental preservation and combat climate change.

Assemblyman Mathis also spoke about the bill AB 2567, which focuses on providing insight into the educational outcomes of student Veterans. As a Veteran himself, Mathis expressed his personal understanding of the challenges Veterans face in pursuing higher education and the importance of not leaving them behind in policy considerations.

In the realm of agriculture, Mathis emphasized the detrimental impact of pest infestations on crop yields and the need for effective enforcement measures. AB 2745 aims to equip County Agricultural Commissioners with tools to combat negligent properties that harbor invasive pests.

Highlighting the state's climate goals, Mathis discussed the role of hydrogen as a carbon-free energy source in achieving net-zero emissions by 2045. He underscored the importance of a skilled workforce to develop the necessary infrastructure for hydrogen fueling, as outlined in AB 2147.

Lastly, Assemblyman Mathis addressed the care and support for the IDD community, emphasizing that it should not be a partisan issue. AB 2423 seeks to address funding challenges and ensure that regional centers have the necessary resources to provide services to individuals within the IDD community.

This successful passage of Assemblyman Mathis' bills reflects a commitment to addressing diverse and critical issues facing California and its residents.
