VISALIA: Prepping for Wet Weather

Wet

Visalia issued the following announcement on Nov. 5

The National Weather Service Hanford reports that there is a chance of showers starting Friday, 11/6.

Now is the time to make sure all trash & yard waste is in City-issued containers and that any automotive leaks or spills are cleaned up.

Rain prep includes clearing drains and rain gutters before wet weather arrives. Residents can help their neighborhood by also cleaning up trash and debris on their street.

City crews have been cleaning out storm drains and prepping materials to address any potholes or deterioration on our roadways that rain might bring.

Made for Rain

City streets are designed for a specific rain intensity and duration and the City's Public Works Department prepares year round for winter rain by maintaining the storm drain system, creeks and basins to maximize the capacity for drainage and storage of storm runoff.

Although potential rain starting Friday and running through this weekend is only forecast currently as a "chance of showers," a high intensity rain storm may cause local flooding and standing water within the roadway.

The Public Works Department reminds us that Visalia's roads are designed to hold that rain water as the system catches up to the amount of rain falling over such a short timeframe

Crews will continue to work and will remain on standby for inclement weather. However, residents are asked to pitch in by helping clear and prep their homes and neighborhoods.

For questions on sandbags or for how the City has been preparing, contact the City of Visalia Public Works Customer Service line during regular business hours at 713-4428.
